The impulse to strike out into the unknown—to see what’s over the horizon—is as old as humanity. Today, a whole new horizon beckons. Scientists now believe that our galaxy is filled with solar systems, including billions of Sun-like stars with planets similar to Earth. Astronomers are racing to find habitable worlds, but once we find them, how will we ever get there? How long will it take? What rocket designs might one day conquer the voids of space? Narrated by actor Sean Bean, this program dazzles audiences with virtual rides aboard spacecraft of the future, which use breakthrough concepts in physics designed to achieve ultra-high speeds. How far can our technology take us?
O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium features a state-of-the-art GOTO Chronos Space Simulator star projector with a full-dome digital projection system, the Sky- Skan Definiti, in a 40-foot dome theater with 5.1 surround sound. With comfortable seating for 104, Rollins Planetarium offers public shows and educational opportunities for school groups throughout the year. Rollins Planetarium is located in the Maxwell Center on the YHC campus.
