Rollins Planetarium to Present “Did an Asteroid Really Kill the Dinosaurs?”
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium at Young Harris College will present “Did an Asteroid Really Kill the Dinosaurs?” at 8 p.m. on the following Friday evenings: Jan. 20, Jan. 27, Feb. 17, and Feb. 24. Planetarium admission per show is $5 for adults, $3 for students and free with YHC ID. Tickets are available for advanced purchase online at yhc.edu/planetarium or at the door 30 minutes prior to each show.
Did a space rock six miles wide slam into the Earth millions of years ago and wipe out a majority of all living species at that time, including the dinosaurs? Explore this impact and other cosmic collisions, which are abundant across our solar system, in this dynamic new family-friendly show. See the numerous craters on worlds like the moon, Mars, and even distant Pluto. Examine the dinosaur disaster up close, including the discovery in Italy of a layer of iridium, an element that is extremely rare on Earth, but much more common in asteroids and meteorites.
O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium features a state-of-the-art GOTO Chronos Space Simulator star projector with a full-dome digital projection system, the Sky-Skan Definiti, in a 40-foot dome theater with 5.1 surround sound. With comfortable seating for 104, Rollins Planetarium offers public shows and educational opportunities for school groups throughout the year. Rollins Planetarium is located in the Maxwell Center on the YHC campus.
