Young Harris College Names 2019 Woodward Scholar

Young Harris College junior Hannah Walker of Cumming, Ga., was recently awarded the Beverly Barrow Woodward, ’53, Endowed Scholarship, established by Leonard and Beverly Woodward of Rome, Ga., and granted annually to one YHC student to study abroad in England at Harlaxton College.

Young Harris College Athletics Hall of Fame Inducts New Members

On Nov. 2, Young Harris College hosted a special ceremony and dinner in the Rollins Campus Center to honor the 2018 YHC Athletics Hall of Fame inductees. “A Weekend in the Enchanted Valley” Proved Successful for YHC

Young Harris College recently hosted hundreds of alumni, guests and friends for “A Weekend in the Enchanted Valley.” Weekend highlights included a scholarship luncheon, the YHC Athletics Hall of Fame dinner, the 1886 Young Harris Society reception and an all-alumni collegiate tailgate party.

Young Harris College Students Excel at Singing Competition

Several students from the Young Harris College music and musical theatre programs traveled to Rome, Ga., along with their teachers to compete in the National Association of Teachers of Singing student auditions. The event, which included singers from all over the state of Georgia, took place Nov. 2-3 on the campus of Shorter University.

YHC Students Participate in The Daffodil Project

Students at Young Harris College recently planted 200 daffodil bulbs on the YHC campus as part of The Daffodil Project. This initiative was developed by Am Yisrael Chai, a nonprofit Holocaust education and awareness organization.

Young Harris College Presents “Christmas at YHC”

Young Harris College’s Department of Music invites you to attend its annual “Christmas at YHC” concert on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. in Glenn~McGinnis Hall on the YHC campus. Admission is $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under. YHC students, faculty and staff can attend for free. Tickets will be available at the door.

Undefeated YHC Men’s Soccer Team Advances to NCAA Division II Region Tournament

On Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m., the undefeated Young Harris College men’s soccer team will compete in the NCAA Division II Region Tournament. The Mountain Lions will play on their home field at Young Harris College, which is located at 1 College Street, Young Harris, Ga. 30582. The game is open to the public, and tickets cost $8 for adults, $3 for students with a YHC ID and seniors (62 and older) and $1 for children (ages 2-12).

Upcoming Planetarium Events at Young Harris College

This month, Young Harris College will host a number of shows in the O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium. The planetarium is housed in the Maxwell Center for Mathematics and Sciences on the YHC campus, which is located at 1 College Street, Young Harris, Ga. 30582. Each planetarium show costs $5 for adults, $3 for children and is free for YHC students, faculty and staff. All shows are open to the public.

Young Harris College Presents November Fine Arts Events

Young Harris College invites the community to attend several fine arts events this November. Events include the Percussion Ensemble concert, the Theatre Mainstage performance of Blithe Spirit, the Group Ceramics Art Exhibition, and concerts by the Concert Band, the Community Band, the Jazz Band and the Guitar Ensemble. These events are open to the public and will be held on the Young Harris College campus.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization Recognizes Support from Young Harris College

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina presented a $2,000 donation to Young Harris College’s tennis program to express appreciation for YHC’s support of the Georgia Mountain Tennis Championships. Since 2010, YHC has donated the use of its tennis facility for the annual tournament. The tournament raises money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina, and this past year, $9,000 was raised for the organization.

Young Harris College to Host Renowned Scientist and Author Sean B. Carroll

Young Harris College will host award-winning scientist, author, educator and film producer Sean B. Carroll to present his book, “The Serengeti Rules,” on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. in Glenn-McGinnis Hall on the YHC campus. The event is open to the public and free to attend. In preparation for the presentation, the YHC Academic Success Center will show the film version of “The Serengeti Rules” on the Campus Green on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

Rollins Planetarium Presents “The Ooky Spooky Light Show”

Young Harris College’s O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium will present “The Ooky Spooky Light Show” at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 and Friday, Oct. 26.

David Bottoms and Kelly J. Beard to Deliver Young Harris College’s Annual Sellers Lecture

On Thursday, Oct. 4, David Bottoms and Kelly J. Beard will read for the annual Sellers Lecture at 7 p.m. in Hatcher Dining Room in the Rollins Campus Center at Young Harris College. This event is free and open to the public.

Young Harris Early College Offers High School Students a Jump Start

Young Harris College invites high school juniors and seniors to enroll in its Young Harris Early College program. Young Harris Early College is a dual enrollment program by which Georgia high school students can take college courses and receive college credit while still earning credit toward high school graduation. Tuition, campus fees and books are all paid for by the State of Georgia through the dual enrollment program.

Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris will begin the 2018-2019 season with “Wanda’s Monster,” the annual show for young audiences sponsored by the Fred Register Endowment for Children’s Theatre.

On Thursday, Sept. 6, Young Harris College hosted members of its 1886 Young Harris Society and Hill Society for a luncheon in Suber Banquet Hall. The event featured Gov. Nathan Deal as the keynote speaker.
