YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris will begin the 2018-2019 season with “Wanda’s Monster,” the annual show for young audiences sponsored by the Fred Register Endowment for Children’s Theatre. Performances will run for local schools Wednesday-Friday, Sept. 19-21, with a free public performance on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. in Glenn-McGinnis Hall.
Wanda, a spunky 5-year-old with a vivid imagination, is convinced there’s a monster in her closet. Granny agrees, and contrary to Wanda’s expectations, convinces Wanda that “Monster” is in her closet because he is shy and friendless, not because he’s scary. With Granny’s encouragement, Wanda befriends “Monster,” turning a potentially fearful situation into a lesson in acceptance and friendship.
This show is directed by guest artist Scott Warren who has written and performed for Theatre for Young Audiences at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. This production features senior musical theatre major Kristin Talley of Lawrenceville, Ga., senior musical theatre major Kevin Rains of Ellerslie, Ga., sophomore musical theatre major Jazlyn Dingfelder of Buford, Ga., sophomore musical theatre major Joshua Johnson of Cartersville, Ga., sophomore musical theatre major Andrew Rogers of Young Harris, Ga., and freshman musical theatre major Phillia Prior of Atlanta.
Theatre Young Harris is YHC’s performing arts organization. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more. Auditions are open to YHC students, faculty and staff, as well as the community.
Mainstage Season tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+ or with a YHC ID. Contributions are also accepted during “Pay What You Can” previews.
