Theatre Young Harris Presents “Urinetown—The Musical”
YOUNG HARRIS—Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris will present six performances of “Urinetown—The Music” in Dobbs Theatre located in Goolsby Center on the YHC Campus. Performances are scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 8-11, at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. and a “Pay What You Can Preview” on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+ or with a YHC ID.
When a city begins to suffer from a terrible water shortage caused by a 20-year drought, the government enforces a ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that charges admission to use the toilets. Amid the people, a hero decides that he has had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom. In this hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself, the audience will see a different side to greed, love and revolution.
Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Anne Towns, this production features senior theatre majors Kevin Garland, of Adairsville, Ga., Tyler Todd, of Morrow, Ga., and Blake Wilson, of Talking Rock, Ga., senior musical theatre major Sarah McTyre, of Milledgeville, Ga., senior religious studies major Daniel Harper, of Suwanee, Ga., senior interdisciplinary studies major Lauren James, of Griffin, Ga., junior theatre major Kristin Talley, of Lawrenceville, Ga., junior theatre major Kevin Raines, of Ellerslie, Ga., junior theatre major Nick Oberheu, of Loganville, Ga., junior musical theatre major Keeley Adkisson, of McDonough, Ga., sophomore musical theatre Kelsey Ozment, of Dallas, Ga., sophomore musical theatre major Aly Olvera, of Fayetteville, Ga., sophomore art major Tyler Staten, of Warner Robins, Ga., freshman business and public policy major Julie Toal, of Belfast, Ireland, freshman musical theatre majors Daniel Frisbie, of Marietta, Ga., Andrew Rogers, of Jackson, Ga., Tori Payne, of Alto, Ga., and Abigail Phillips, of Highland, Ala., and freshman undeclared major Jamie Hicks, of Colbert, Ga.
The crew for this production includes freshman theatre major Kaitlin Smith, of Monroe, Ga., as props designer, senior theatre majors Savannah Williams, of Rutledge, Ga., as stage manager, and Amanda Crane, of Midland, Ga., as costume designer.
“Theatre Young Harris has presented me with opportunities that I may not have been offered anywhere else and it has helped me discover my talents and broaden them to a whole new level,” said Oberheu. “I approached this production of ‘Urinetown’ with the desire to apply all that I’ve learned, and that makes me even more excited for everyone to see it. And, don’t let the title fool you, this is a fun show with great music!”
Theatre Young Harris is YHC’s performing arts organization. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more.
