Theatre Young Harris to Present “The Elves and the Shoemaker”
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.—Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris will begin the 2017-2018 season with “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” the annual show for young audiences sponsored by the Fred Register Endowment for Children’s Theatre. The performance is a part of the three-piece celebration of the grand re-opening of Glenn-McGinnis Hall. Performances will run for local schools Wednesday-Friday, Sept. 20-22, with a free public performance on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. in Glenn-McGinnis Hall.
The shoemaker of Grimmsville makes shoes that re miserably uncomfortable and impossible to walk in. One day, his daughter Shannon is given a magical medallion that holds the charm of the elves. With his shoes now wanted throughout the land, Eric and his family have more gold than they can count. But, they quickly realize all the money in the world doesn’t buy happiness.
The production is directed by Adjunct Instructor of Theatre Bart Hansard and features senior theatre major Natalie Andric, of Dawsonville, Ga., senior history major Macaulay VanHoose, of Woodstock, Ga., junior musical theatre major Cara Sullivan, of Marietta, Ga., sophomore biology major Patrick Eldon, of Bradenton, Fla., sophomore theatre major Carrie Worsley, of Warm Springs, Ga., freshman theatre major Alan Lanxton, of Woodruff, S.C., and freshman musical theatre majors Jazlyn Dingfelder, of Buford, Ga., and Ally Higgins, of Duluth, Ga.
Theatre Young Harris is YHC’s performing arts organization. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more. Auditions are open to YHC students, faculty and staff as well as the community.
Mainstage Season tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+ or with a YHC ID. Contributions are also accepted during “Pay What You Can” previews.
