Young Harris College Community Band to Present “Pops on the Plaza”
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College Community Band will present the highly anticipated annual outdoor “Pops on the Plaza” concert on Tuesday, April 25, at 7 p.m. on the YHC Campus Plaza. The community is invited to gather lawn chairs and blankets and make plans to enjoy a memorable evening of familiar musical favorites. The performance is free and open to the public.
Directed by YHC Adjunct Instructor of Music Kerry Rittenhouse, the ensemble is comprised of talented high school and adult musicians from the local community, and performs traditional band classics as well as entertaining “pops” music.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the program will be a celebration to the instrumental program that began from the YHC Community Band and eventually grew into the YHC Concert Band. Both bands will combine into one large, impressive ensemble for the evening.
In addition to Rittenhouse, this year’s “Pops on the Plaza” will feature all former directors of the Community Band during its history including Adjunct Instructor of Music Alan Denmon, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands Dr. Mary Land, and former Professor of Music and Dean of the Division of Fine Arts Dr. Benny Ferguson.
The concert will feature music from crowd-favorite Broadway musicals and movie scores to beloved pop songs and traditional band favorites.
The YHC Community Band provides an opportunity for local musicians to perform quality musical literature, serves as an educational resource for area schools and presents several free concerts every year for residents in the region.
