Dr. Andrea L. Kwiatkowski
Professor of Biology, Chair of Natural Sciences - Mathematics, Science & Technology
Dr. Andrea Kwiatkowski joined the faculty of Young Harris College in 2010. Her research interests are in the area of microbial physiology and genetics. In her graduate work, she studied Salmonella and other microbes that cause food poisoning. In her postdoctoral work at Emory, she studied biofilm-forming microbes that cause infections in military personnel. Her recent research includes investigating biofilm formation, the microbiome of the gastrointestinal tract, and identifying plant-based compounds for their antimicrobial effects. Dr. Kwiatkowski discovered her love for teaching as a graduate teaching assistant at UGA. She currently teaches Introductory Biology, Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology at Young Harris College. She resides in Young Harris with her husband and two daughters.
