Honors program eligibility

Students wishing to enter the honors program should have a cumulative YHC GPA of 3.5 or better and should apply before they have completed 90 credit hours.

How to apply to the Honors Program

The Program Director initiates recruitment into the YHC Honors Program in the spring of each year, primarily for second-semester freshmen. Self-nominations for admission will be solicited from the student body during recruitment. Transfer students and other non-freshman are also encouraged to apply during recruitment. Recruitment is limited to approximately 15 students each academic year.

Honors societies at YHC

In addition to the honors program, YHC hosts many honors societies. Each one has its own focus and eligibility criteria.

Alpha Chi

The Georgia Xi chapter of this national honor society promotes and recognizes superior scholarship and those elements of character which make scholarship effective for service. Membership is the highest academic honor on campus. Membership is limited to no more than 10 percent of the junior and senior classes.

Kappa Pi

This international honorary art fraternity offers thousands of art students and professionals a group to call home. Incoming members must complete 12 hours in art, attain a B average in all art courses, and produce outstanding artwork.

Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association. Election to membership in Lambda Pi Eta is open to undergraduates enrolled as communication studies majors or minors. Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 with 60 credit hours completed and 3.25 for communication studies courses with 12 credit hours completed.

Mu Phi Epsilon

Mu Phi Epsilon is an International Professional Music Fraternity which recognizes scholarship and musicianship and promotes friendship. Membership is based upon scholarship, musicianship, and character. Undergraduates must be enrolled as music majors or minors and have attained at least second term freshman standing, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in music subjects and 2.0 in academic subjects.

Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. Undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours in history and achieve a minimum GPA of 3.1 in history and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall.

Sigma Tau Delta

This international English honor society confers distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate and professional studies. Membership is open to undergraduates enrolled as English majors or minors with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, at least three semesters of coursework completed and a class rank in the highest 35 percent.
